There is nothing like a good bit of manufactured outrage from lawmakers to give a much needed publicity boost to a relatively harmless product with a scandalous! name.
Cocaine, the beverage, is just your run of the mill "energy drink" from a company that now has to spend $0 on marketing because the lawmakers of NYC have thrust knowledge of its existence into the public consciousness by vehemently opposing it.
Councilwoman Letitia James of Brooklyn called the beverage “a legal precursor to an illegal product,” while Councilman Larry B. Seabrook of the Bronx likened it to “imitation cigarettes, which caused generations upon generations to become smokers.”
Let me be the first to tell you, from experience with these kinds of things, that kids who want to experiment with cocaine are not getting the idea from a highly caffeinated soda, and kids who want to smoke do not get the idea from candy cigarettes.
Also, let it be known that while I have yet to see this product in any store, I could have cocaine (and any illegal substance, really) delivered to my front door in under two hours with a simple phone call. I dare say kids have more access to the coke you snort than to the cocaine you drink, and they are much more savvy these days than to be inspired to take real drugs because of the presence of fake drugs.
This is my 600th post, and it is about Cocaine.

I will start by stating that I use energy drinks, and drink caffinated products, which is a choice. You are absolutely right, choices are owned only by the person that makes them. Choices are also the result of options provided. A child will smoke a candy cirgarette because they get to blow smoke like the big mature grown-ups do and because at one point in time it was a little on the taboo side, and it made them look cool infront of their friends. Plus the Gum was tasty! And you are right, your new drink "Cocaine" is just one more option in a long line of over advertised energy drinks. A teen will definately make a choice to drink "Cocaine" not because of the taste, but because they will be on the edge of Taboo, doing something that won't get them in trouble, but will possibly identify them as Cool, a rebel, trend setter. Our choices do not erupt from a vacum, your choice to create a caffine drink named for a Narcotic is in direct relation or comparison to what that narcotic does. Teens know what the inherent effects of Cocaine (the drug) will do, and you have offered them a supposedly safe alternative (a symbolic drug) much like those candy cigarrettes (a symbol). So you are again right, marketing a drink, which contains the stimulant drug caffine, off the reputation of an equally addictive illegal stimulant drug Cocaine, is a fabulous Marketing concept. Oh yeh, that warning which indicates "this beverage should be consumed by responsible adults", and is then dismissed with "Failure to adhere to this warning may result in excess excitement, stamina, fun, and possible feeling of euphoria." is similar to what someone would say in offering the option to use cocaine (The Drug)!
There marketing tactics = genius.
Alot of media attention,
All ready got a well branded name,
Marketing it at young people, and most cocaine addicts are younger.
'The legal Alternative'

As a distributor of energy drinks and tobacco, blunts and
other consumer products I experience that a innovative product always found its way into the market. The colors and
the presentation helps a lot
this is a winner.
I can't wait to see this product hit stores. So what if it shares a name with an illegal drug, all the better to go out and buy the drink. It's going to be a blast to pull that out at the office. And i'm sure my boss won't bitch, cause I'm sure I'll be getting all my work done that day. Can't wait to get a can.
WOW!! What a rush. i just drove 230 miles to buy a 2 cases of Cocaine and i do not regret one mile of that trip. The best part of the whole Cocaine experiance is seeing peoples face's when they ask you "what are you drinking?" then you say, "Cocaaine.'As for the marketing side of things i will agree with the genuis side of it. I would never drive 230 miles to get a RED BULL i mean yeah that sounds cool and all but not as unique or risky as cocaine. I give the makers all the props in the world because they stepped in to the unknown to make money and pissed off lawmakers in the process.
Nice job guys can't wait untill i can buy cocaine at wal-mart.
good god (just reacting to the comments). that...eh, never mind.
anyway, was gonna say: that's ALMOST as good as Michael Weiner Savage's "Rock Star" line, really. Drink This! You'll feel like a rock star! buy my book! i have springs coming out my head!
lol
Yeah, this post was linked by the manufacturer's website, so it's had thousands upon thousands of hits. And these are the five comments I got. :-/
HA HA How brilliant!! I do agree that candy cigarettes did NOT lead me to smoke and I still eat those tasty little things. This is not going to make kids want to try Cocaine. The fact that everyone is so up in arms is exactly why Teenagers will want to drink this product. Let it go and it will work itself out of business. Why are the apposed parties giving them free advertisement?
I think it is unbelievable what stupidity comes out of peoples mouths. Do law makers/politicians really think that because a drink is named the same as an illegal drug that kids will them want to purchse the drug? There is an old saying "better to look stupid than open your mouth and remove all doubts". Come on now, I bet the alcohol industries does more to this country than any energy drink or cigarette could possibly ever do. Drunk driving, spouse/child abuse, loss of job, etc..... not to mention drunk driving deaths but you don't hear politicians arguing about this because they are toasting the next candidate. Get real, get a life and get a clue!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
OK...I am done with the drink...I need a real fix...anybody know where I can get some real cocaine?...I mean the energy drink...no confusion...officer...just looking for cocaine...you know...like red bull...i would never do drugs...I Hate Cocaine...after all I am Jen.
What the **** is wrong with America? Why do we need more caffeine? Anyone ever hear of ADD? Parents it is up to you to teach your children that caffeine in any dose is harmful to a growing body and developing mind, let alone these outrageously large quantities being introduced to us. Caffeine is a drug! Making large doses available to children in a can that can be consumed in less than a minute is irresponsible. I think you should be locked in a room with 100 teenagers who have consumed your product. God help you if in 20 years you need heart surgery and there are no surgeons who can steady a scalpel because they're all addicted to "large doses" of caffeine. KARMA! Think about it!
