Home Sweet Homo

I'm back from Birmingham, sexually relieved ;), tired, disallusioned with my job, and ready for a change...but feeling good about things, I suppose. I wrote this thing for the work website and the editor dude totally changed it, I mean not even really that much but enough that I don't feel like it's in my "voice" or anything I would've signed my name to, but oh well. Now I'm going to take a nap and later, I'm going to party like a rock star.

In other news, why is the national news media not really reporting on the gas shortage in the southeast? I know the Mother of All Bailouts is in the forefront, but still. This gas situation is quite frightening, and earlier I thanked the Lord that I found some before I ran out. It's due to pipeline problems caused by the recent hurricane, but it makes me TOTALLY buy even further into hte peak oil theories of impending global societal collapse. People get vicious, I've witnessed it...and I'm glad that in my pick up truck there is a lock on the gas tank.

Out in the Boonies

So I'm out in Waynesville, NC for work, and I have to say that it is absolutely beautiful out here in the mountains. Once you get west of Charlotte, out of the "piedmont" and into view of the Blue Ridge and Smokies, it is an astonishing sight for anyone whose eyes have been on urban sights for a while. Charlotte is a big change from New York, and my hometown of Lewisville is even vastly different from Charlotte, but when you get out in areas like this -- isolated, small population, untravelled towns -- it is such a hard to explain cultural experience. I know some people are cut out for this kind of environment, those who are born and raised in it and even some of those who choose it, and while I can enjoy a visit nad understand its nuances and appeal, I mean no disrespect when I say that if I had to live here I would SLIT MY FUCKING WRISTS.

My Good Name!

My boss just told me that someone with my same first and last name (except a one letter spelling difference in the last name) was on the local news last night for some kind of crime...she's trying to find a link for me 'cause she got a kick out of it. I'm just hoping she doesn't come across too much while Googling my name for this purpose! I'm innocent!!

Exciting Opportunity

When you work in "ministry", many times people come to you with "exciting opportunities", which is a nice way of saying "more work". However, I really do have an exciting opportunity! This involves blogging for a LGBT publication here in Charlotte. I just have to come up with a "beat", like, what I would cover. Can't be politics or pop culture. So what do you think I should do? I was thinking local events/nightlife/personalities and a bit of LGBT history. It should have appeal for all readers, not just my sect. What do you think? I really need some thoughts and ideas on this so I can get back to the HBIC for our meeting date.

Advice for Obama/Biden

There is way too much talk about Sarah Palin from both sides. This is the Republican's strategy working. Both sides would do good to remind Americans that she is not running for president (though she may very well stumble into that position if McCain is elected.) Do not let them keep the focus on Sarah Palin and the campaigns "shameful attacks" on her. Return the focus the Obama/Biden platform, and if you must mention the other side, focus on McCain, and why he is not the best choice for president.

I am here!

And a resident of Charlotte now. Kind of homeless but the kindness of friends has got me through. Hopefully I can start pulling my shit together but there's been so much going on,with moving, cat care, returning, borrowing, work nonsense, dread, hatred, stand-stills, headaches, Joe Biden, Sarah Palin, nervous breakdowns...will update later.

BUT I'm in NY next week so hit me on my hip, you damn Yankees!
